The day of the fake
Posted on | June 16, 2005
Well, it’s slightly off the point but the day before yesterday, whilst looking at various subjects about Thailand, including the winding road of fraudulent imitation, I thought these pictures might be amusing…
Bangkok. Opposite the hotel where we were organising a tasting, a drab supermarket, open 24 hours a day. I had forgotten my washbag in Jakarta so I head off to buy a toothbrush and, of course, curious, I go past the display of wine. Surprise…

10 vintages of Mouton, 8 of Margaux, DRC to die for! Conserved under the neon lights at 40°C. Real? Phoney? After this treatment for several years and the colour of these labels, does it really matter any more:))))
The price, itself, was logical: 16,829Baht for a Châteaux Margaux 1993, or 337€.
All our best wishes to the happy buyer… for those that don’t like obfuscation…
