Return home

Posted on | December 11, 2005

The week had announced itself as busy and it had been. Return after midday after four marathon non-stop days, practically a bottle permanently in my hand. OK, a glass too sometimes :)

Terrific broadcast, to really get it going, with Jean-Pierre Coffe. For those that missed it and would would like to try and listen (in French), this is the link HERE. It should work with Quick TIme, but also Windows Media. Watch out, one must have a high band connection, it’s an mp3. It lasts an hour, but I believe that it’s worth a listen. A passionate programme, where a number of problems were touched upon. There are more, for sure, but judging by the reactions on the site and the emails I’ve received, many listeners appreciated it.

Since the return to Vingrau, one needs at least 24 hours to slow down, rediscover one’s rhythm. For that, it’s really worth a walk in the vineyards. It’s a grey day but the colours are superb. Some vines are already losing their leaves, mostly those vines which have suffered, attacked by oïdium and by an end of season mosaic of mildew, unusual for here. I will ltry and take some photos tomorrow, I forgot my camera.

Each type of grape has its it own way of terminating its cycle. The Carignan flame and redden, the Grenache turn a pale green, the Maccabeu yellow. The circus of Vingrau is transformed now into a gigantic mosaic with colours and forms which make the place resemble a majestic stained glass window.

Ouf, after thirty minutes of walking at Clos des Fèes, my energy returns. I rediscover my roots. And soon to be ten years, they are deeper than I might ever have imagined. There was something good, in this kind of trip, short but intense, it is really quite something to fill this blog during all this time….
